Caryn Patterson is a published composer and arranger, and is currently the choral director of the LeMoyne College Singers. In 2021, Patterson founded ‘Test Kitchen’, a vocal jazz group which performs and records her original vocal jazz arrangements and compositions. The group released their first studio album ‘Wings of Dreams’ in 2022, and were nominated for a Syracuse Area Music Award in the Outstanding Jazz Album category in 2023. Test Kitchen released their second album, ‘A Little of This And That’ in 2024. Both albums can be heard on all major streaming platforms. Patterson’s vocal jazz and choral arrangements from both ‘Wings of Dreams’ and ‘A Little of This and That’ can be found on Sheet Music Direct and Sheet Music Plus. Being committed to sharing her love of vocal jazz with younger singers, she has written several pieces for emerging vocal jazz groups of all ages. Her original compositions can be found on Anchor Music Publishing, as well as Sheet Music Plus and Sheet Music Direct. Previous to her position at LeMoyne College, Patterson was the choral director at Cicero-North Syracuse High School where her vocal groups (both choral and vocal jazz) were consistently recognized as having achieved the highest level of performance. Patterson, along with the rest of the Musical Creative Team at CNS were awarded the New York State Board of School Superintendents’ ‘Champions of Change’, in recognition of the unique musical theater program they developed with their work during the pandemic to continue theater education while supporting students’ mental health.
